This obituary is administered by:
CLAYTON - Sharon Frieden passed away on March 6, 2014 after a long battle with lung cancer and related lung problems. Sharon believed in Jesus Christ her God and Savior. She was baptized in the Southern Baptist Church as a child in Crockett, Calif. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister, she was born on February 14, 1944 in Russellville, Ark., to her parents, Quenton and Lucille Harris. She grew up in Crockett, Calif., and attended elementary and high school there. Later, she attended and graduated from ECP computer programming school in San Francisco and later still, she attended Moore Park College in Moore Park, Calif. She was a constant resource for support and advice to her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She read constantly and while she may not have attained a degree in college, she had a PHD in general knowledge from all her studies. If anything tweaked her curiosity, she would find the books and study diligently. She was a great wife and manager of the home. She had an elegant taste for home décor and clothing. She loved swimming while she could still get out and was proud to have her own swimming pool. Sharon was not a social butterfly but in the communities she chose to be a part of, she was loved dearly. During the last year of her life, she spent so much time in Duke Raleigh that she was on first name basis with RNs, Respiratory Therapists and CNAs on three different floors. She was a supporter of many causes, including Wounded Veterans, Saleisians, Operation Smiles and many others. Sharon is survived by her husband of 53 years, L. "Fritz" Frieden; son. Leroy Frieden; daughter, Cheryl Cipres; son, Kevin Frieden (Debra); daughter, Pamela Hartman (Phil); granddaughters, Ali Walsh, Rebecca Rachlin, Angelina Cipres, Daphne Frieden, Victoria Cipres and Sharon Durand; grandson, Kyle Hartman; great grandson, Dominic Rachlin; sister, Shirley McHale of California; and many nieces and nephews, including a favorite niece, Kimberly Ehler of California, who spent time with her Aunt Sharon during her last days. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Michael Frieden in 1985; and her sister, Betty Shafer in 2005. The family would like to thank Dr. Jennifer Garst, the RNs, CNAs and Respiratory Therapists at Duke Raleigh Oncology Clinic and hospital for their tender and loving care since Sharon's diagnosis of lung cancer. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday at Trinity Free Will Baptist Church in Clayton with Rev. Chris Bagley officiating.
