Shane Lawrence Sutton, age 36, passed into the loving arms of Jesus on Monday, March 12, 2018. He was born, the eldest of five children, on February 13th, 1982, in York to Steve and Jeannie (Reetz) Geis.
Shane worked as a farmhand; as well as, doing construction work. He enjoyed designing and remodeling homes, sheds, and barns. His hands were always busy helping out friends and family. Shane was a master mechanic in all fields and took on new projects with confidence and an ability to tackle any obstacle. His innovative mind was always working. He enjoyed the challenge of improving complex designs as well as simple fixes around the home. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, playing pool, hunting, fishing, boating, and playing Xbox with his daughter, Madi. Growing up in a household with four slightly opinionated and occasionally bossy sisters helped Shane develop his amazing sense of humor and his iconic orneriness.
Shane faced various roadblocks during his lifetime but leaned on his faith in Jesus to help him navigate through the difficult times. He was a good listener, kind, caring and always willing to help a person in need. His insurmountable knowledge of the Bible was invaluable as he assisted people who were hurting or simply lost. He volunteered as a tutor in prison ministries. He will forever be remembered for his gentle soul, infectious laugh, contagious smile and the sparkle in his eyes.
Shane is survived by his daughter, Madison; his special friend, Candace Powers of York; parents, Steve and Jeannie Geis of York; sister: Heidi, Wynema and Michael, of Sutton, Kristina Geis of Omaha, Elizabeth (Lawrence) Osborne of Estes Park, Colo. and Amanda Geis of Aurora and grandfather, Elvin Reetz of Benedict. He is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins that love him dearly.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at Benedict Zion Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Benedict.
Visitation will be held from 4 – 8 p.m. Monday at Metz Mortuary. Memorials may be directed to the family to be used for a college fund for Madi.
