KINSTON - Scarlett Jernigan Kennedy, 51, of Kinston passed away on Thursday, August 30, 2012, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. She was born on March 23, 1961, to Robert and Civil Jernigan of Wayne County. Scarlett was preceded in death by her father, Robert Eugene Jernigan. Survivors include her husband, F. Bruce Kennedy Sr. of the home; son Forrest Bruce Kennedy Jr. of Greenville; mother Civil Edwards Jernigan of Kinston; two sisters, Lorelle Walker and husband Eddie, and Tracy Jernigan; brother Robbie Jernigan; and mother-in-law, Meta Mae Kennedy all of Kinston; and her beloved collie, Casey. She was a Service Representative at State Employees Credit Union and a member of Armenia Christian Church. Scarlett loved animals and was a volunteer with Love on a Leash, a pet therapy program. She loved children and "Mothered" many in her neighborhood. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, September 2, 2012, at Howard-Carter Funeral Home with Pastor John Brick officiating.
