Sarah K. ArvesenJan. 3, 1923 - Nov. 27, 2016SOUTH BEND - Sarah Harrison Arvesen, 93, of Andre Place, Notre Dame, IN, died peacefully on Sunday, November 27, 2016. Sarah was born on January 23, 1923, in Oelrichs, South Dakota. She was the youngest child born to Benjamin and Marie Harrison. On October 4, 1944, in Gary, IN, Sarah married Harold G. Arvesen. He preceded her in death on December 14, 1996. In addition to her husband, Sarah was preceded in death by a son, H. William Arvesen on June 12, 2012; her sisters, Norah Humphrey and Adeline Frahm; and her 10 half brothers and sisters. Sarah is survived by her daughters, Christine Reite and Jean Conner; 6 grandchildren, Marc Koehler, Matt Koehler, Geoff Arvesen, Heather Arvesen, Jill Conner, and Leslie Conner; and 6 great-grandchildren. Sarah graduated from Colorado State University with a degree in nutrition. She completed her internship in Dietetics at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago. After moving to South Bend in 1946, Sarah was a registered Dietician at St. Joseph Hospital in Mishawaka. She then worked at Memorial Hospital and retired as Chief Clinical Dietician in 1988. Following her retirement, Sarah travelled, spent winters in the Florida Keys, and did what she loved best - playing Bridge. Funeral services will be held at St. Joseph Chapel on the Holy Cross Village Campus at 11 AM, Friday, December 2, 2016. A lunch and a time of celebration of Sarah's life will follow at the Andre Place dining room. A private burial service will take place on Saturday, December 3, 2016.
