This obituary is administered by:
Sandra Berry passed away in her home on September 3, 2012 in Wilsonville, Oregon from lung cancer. Both of her children were holding her hands.Sandra Lee Sheets was born on January 30, 1940, in Kansas City, Missouri to Sarah and Gene Sheets. She graduated from Brownsville High School in Brownsville, Texas in 1958 and received an education degree from Southwest Texas State University in l963. She married Clay C. Berry from Kenedy, Texas, in 1960. As Clay finished his law degree and began his career as an attorney, Clay and "Sanny" moved back and forth between Texas and Alaska over the next 12 years, finally settling in Juneau in 1972. Sandra was a stay-at-home Mom until her early 40's when she went to work for the State of Alaska. For the next 27 years, San was an education specialist for the Alaska Department of Education. During that time, she received her Masters Degree in Adult and Community Education from Alaska Pacific University. In her free time, Sandra sang in the Juneau Sweet Adelines. After Clay's death in 2000, Sandra moved to Wilsonville, Oregon. Daughter Nena and son J.J. had also moved to the Portland area with their families. Sandra created a new life for herself in Wilsonville and immersed herself in the civic scene. The ultimate organizer and coordinator, Sandra served on practically every board and committee in Wilsonville. She became an avid walker and, most recently, served as group leader of the Wilsonville Walkers. She was also "Vice Queen" of the local Red Hat Society and, after her passing, it was discovered that she had 21 red hats in her collection!Sandra loved to shop and had a fantastic eye for color and style. She was always impeccably dressed with coordinating shoes, purses and jewelry. She loved anything "sparkly!" She enjoyed seeing the latest movie and discussing it afterward over dessert with her gal pals. Sandra was a loving and generous mother. Her kids were everything to her. Her spirit was kind and gentle – she wanted everyone to get along and she often assumed the role of "peace maker."Sandra is survived by her daughter, Nena and husband Mike, of Juneau, son J.J. and wife Victoria of Sherwood, OR, and grandson Ryan Thomas of Portland, OR.A Celebration of Life was held at the Wilsonville Community Center on Saturday, September 22, 2012. No services are planned for Juneau. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to a hospice or cancer research organization in her honor.
