KENDALLVILLE — Samuel Herby Jaquay, age 88, of Kendallville, passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2016 at his residence in Kendallville. Mr. Jaquay born on February 18, 1928 in Jefferson Township near Albion, Indiana, to the late Elvia and Laura Leone (Rimmel) Jaquay. He served his country for 18 months in the
United States Navy during
World War II and was married to Betty Anna Lee Hart on July 28, 1950 in Valentine, Indiana. Early on, Sam was employed with American Hoist & Derrick in Fort Wayne for a number of years and in 1964 he went to work as second shift supervisor with A-1 Production north of Kendallville. It was during that time that Sam started Jaquay Janitorial which he owned and operated for 26 years before retiring in 1989. Sam was a life member and past commander of the Rome City American Legion Post 381 and Kendallville
VFW Post 2749. He was a 33rd Degree Mason and member of the F&AM Kendallville lodge and the Mizpah Shrine. Sam was also a member of First Church of God in Kendallville. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Betty Jaquay of Kendallville; daughters Sandra and Dr. William Webb of Huntington and Deabra and Steve Crager of Cottonwood, Arizona; sons Sam and Victoria Jaquay of Bowling Green, Kentucky, and Dan "Jake" and Crystal Jaquay of Kendallville; 15 grandchildren, William (Janell) Webb of South Bend, Brian (Beth Ann) Webb of Anderson, Matthew (Eva) Webb of Huntington, Michael (Heather) Webb of Tanzania, East Africa, Tonya Walter of Fort Wayne, Joseph (Kristina) Webb of Scottsdale, Arizona, Melissa Crager, Steven Crager of Oklahoma, Danielle (Tim) Labold of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Samantha (Joseph) Gunning of Bowling Green, Trevor (Deanna) Jaquay of Floyds Knobb, Indiana, Colton Jaquay, Chloe McRobbie, Jami Jaquay, and Danielle "Dani" Jaquay all of Kendallville; 23 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Laurabelle Brock of White Bluff, Tennessee. Sam was also preceded in death by two infant sons, Samuel Herby Jaquay and Arnold Wayne Jaquay; and three sisters, Juanita June Jaquay, Gertrude "Becky" Azora Miller and Alice Hart. Visitation with the Jaquay family will be held today from 3-7 p.m. at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville. Funeral services will be on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Hite Funeral Home. Officiating the service will be Pastor Regan Ford. Burial with military honors will take place at Rehoboth Cemetery near Albion. Military honors will be conducted by members of the Rome City American Legion Post 381, Kendallville VFW Post 2795, Kendallville American Legion Post 86, and active duty United States Navy troops.
