Mr. Samuel Grady Beall, age 77, of Lake City, Florida passed away Monday, October 31, at his home following an extended illness. He was born on September 3, 1939 in Hazlehurst, Georgia. He was the firstborn son of Sam and Noretta Beall. When Grady was 6 months old his family moved to Miami, Florida. He became a follower of Jesus at an early age and was a member of Flagler Street Baptist Church. He joined the United States Navy in 1957 and served 3 years on the aircraft carrier, USS Franklin D. Roosevelt. Upon being honorably discharged in 1960 he joined the City of Miami Police Department. While employed as a
Police Officer, Grady served in several areas including, Uniformed Radio Patrol, Special Task Force, Accident Squad, and was a detective in the Alcohol and Tobacco Division. He then went on to be trained with the US Federal Narcotics Bureau to become part of the City of Miami Police Departments first Vice Squad. After leaving the Vice Squad he began what would be his last transfer to the Motor Squad. After 20 years, his career was cut short because of being shot while on duty. During his career he received over 100 commendations including All-Dade County Officer of the Month, MPD Most Courteous Officer of the Month 3 times and City of Miami Officer of the Month on three separate occasions. He served as Conductor of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 20 from 1972-1976 and was an active member of both the FOP and the Police Benevolent Association his entire career, and thereafter. Grady enjoyed fishing, traveling, cruising, and riding his Harley, but most of all he loved spending time with his family and being part of his church. Grady is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Donna, of almost 50 years, 4 children, Marty (Sherri), Stacey (Brian), Christi (Jeff), Jennifer (Danny), 9 grandchildren, Jeremy (Samantha), Lauren (Brandon), Joey (Emily), Andy, Bubba, Rebecca, Everett, Julia, and Daniel. 5 great grandchildren, Sabrina, Zachary, Jacob, Ella, and Aria. 1 brother, Jimmy Beall (Elaine), many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of beloved family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Noretta Beall and granddaughters, Ellie and Jocelyn. A funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Beall will be held at 3:30 P.M., Saturday, November 12, at Parkview Baptist Church, 268 NW Lake Jeffery Rd., Lake City, Florida, with Dr. Mike Tatem and Rev. Marty Beall officiating. Visitation and gathering with the family will be from 2 to 3:30 P.M. (One and a half hours before funeral service). Final disposition will be by cremation.
