Sally Jo AndrewsZANESVILLE: Sally Jo Andrews, 82, died on May 28, 2016, surrounded by her family. She was born on January 4, 1934 in Zanesville, Ohio to William M. Holmes and Mary I. Holmes (Korn). Sally grew up during WWII and its aftermath, and loved to tell stories of her childhood in 1940's Zanesville; walking her dog Tippy through the cemeteries by her childhood home, and visiting all her Irish aunts who lived nearby. As she got older, she was an adventurous and fun loving young woman. She embraced life and lived it to the fullest. A woman ahead of her time, after graduating from Rosecrans High School in 1952, she enrolled at St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing and graduated as a registered nurse in 1955. Psychiatric nursing was a true passion of hers, and she worked for the Psychiatric Nurse Residency Program at the
Ohio State University until 1957, she married the love of her life, John R. "Dick" Andrews in 1958.Sally and Dick moved into their home on Westview Drive in 1964. It was in this home that they raised their 3 children, Karen, Danny and Kathy. Westview Drive was a magical place to raise a family in the 1960's and 1970's and the friendships made among the neighbors were lasting ones. The Westview Drive gang was a second family to Sally, Dick and their children. In 1974, after 16 years away from the field, Sally went back to work at Bethesda Hospital. She worked there until 1994, when she retired after 20 years of service. Nursing was her true calling. Sally is survived by her son, Daniel Andrews, of Columbus and 2 daughters Karen (Craig) Stemm and Kathy (Robert) Malek of Zanesville. In addition to her children, Sally is survived by grandchildren Erin Stemm (James Fout), of Columbus, Patrick Stemm, Andrea Malek and Nicholas Malek, all of Zanesville, and great-grandson, Liam Fout. She is also survived by her sister, Patty Singleton (George), her wild Irish cousins, numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws. In addition to her parents, Sally is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Dick Andrews. Sally had many, many interests. She loved musical theatre, and gave her family a love of music and musicals. She loved Willie Nelson, and in 1998, a long- time dream came true when she finally got to meet him. She loved to travel, and experienced a trip of a lifetime when she traveled to Ireland with her daughter Kathy, to explore her Irish ancestry. She loved her cats, and even had a sweet 16 birthday party for her beloved cat, Penny. Most of all, she loved her family and her family loved her right back. Nothing was more important to her. She was a beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother and friend. Special thanks to longtime friends, especially Becky, Kay, Charlie and the Jividens who were friends to Sally until the very end. Visitation will be held at Bryan & Hardwick Funeral Home at 2318 Maple Ave, Zanesville on Tuesday May 31 from 4-8pm, with Wake Service at 7:30pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, June 1 at 10:00am at St. Thomas Catholic Church with a Dominican father officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made in her name to the Muskingum County Animal Shelter 1430 Newark Road, Zanesville OH.
