SHAH SANATKUMAR Age 75, of Bethel Park, PA, passed away on October 21, 2016, from lung cancer, at UPMC Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. Sanat was born on November 8, 1940, in Ahmedabad, India, to Dahiben P. Shah and Popatlal D. Shah, and was the second youngest of seven children. He graduated from St. Joseph's High School in Bangalore and continued his education in Bombay. Sanat then moved to the USA to attend Rockford College. He studied at the
University of Illinois and transferred back to Rockford College, in Rockford, IL, where he received his bachelor's degree in economics in 1962. While at the University of Illinois, Sanat met fellow student Barbara Jones. They were later married. After living briefly in Rockford, and for 13 years in Moline, IL, in 1976 they moved to Bethel Park, PA, where they raised their three sons, all of whom graduated from Bethel Park Senior High School. Like his father, Sanat was an entrepreneur. For nearly 29 years he has been a full-time business owner, founding Shah Industrial Sales, Inc., and later a subsidiary, Indica Interiors, in Bethel Park. Sanat was a very warm, loving and giving person. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family. Sanat kept up with the latest happenings in the lives of his brothers, sister and their families in India through letters, phone, and later email and Facetime. He also loved traveling with his wife, sons, and their families throughout the world and to India to introduce and connect his American and Indian families. He enjoyed playing golf, gardening, playing bridge, and listening to Indian film music. Sanat was a passionate advocate for social justice and workers' rights. He regularly contributed to charities, especially the local food bank. Sanat was a life-long Democrat who fondly recalled shaking hands with then-candidate John F. Kennedy in 1960, and was looking forward to the election of Hillary Clinton, the first female president, on his 76th birthday. Sanat leaves his wife of 54 years, Barbara; daughter-in-law, Joanne Regan, widow of his son, Raj, his son, Ravi and wife, Wendy Shah and their daughters, Maya (11) and Anika (9), and his son, Jay and wife, Katie Hines-Shah and their children, John (11) and Betty (4); brothers, Krishnavadan (KP), Chandravadan (CP), Indravadan (IP); and sister, Kalpana; and many other loving nieces, nephews and relatives. Sanat was predeceased by his son, Raj; and brothers, Madhusudan (MP) and Pravinchandra (PP). Memorial services for Sanat Shah will be held at St. Joan of Arc Church, 6414 Montour St., South Park, PA, on Friday, October 28, 2016, at 4:30 p.m. followed by dinner at Domremy Hall on site. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Park Foundation or . The family encourages all attendees to bring a non-perishable food item or household paper product for donation to the SHIM food bank.
