Ruth Marie MitchellUnion CityRuth Marie Mitchell, 90, of Union City, died on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital.A celebration of Ruth's life will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at 11 am at Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation in Union City. Pastor Marty Burdick will officiate. Interment will follow at Reese Cemetery in Springfield, MI. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 9, 2017 from 4-7 PM, also at The Lighthouse.Ruth was born on August 11, 1927 in Fisk, MO to James and Lillie (Reynolds) Parris. After the family moved to Michigan, she attended Springfield Schools. In 1948, Ruth married Donald F. Mitchell, who preceded her in death in 1985. Ruth worked at her brother's store, Randy's Market, in Battle Creek. She later worked as a self-employed homecare provider, often taking care of people who were younger than herself. Ruth retired in the late 1990s, which gave her more time to pursue her hobbies of following the Detroit Tigers, working in the yard, planting a garden and flowers, going to the casino and on trips with her "road buddy" Wanda. Ruth absolutely loved kids.Left to mourn Ruth's memory are her daughters, Susan (Gary L. Baker) Mitchell of Battle Creek and Kerri Adkins of Union City; daughter-in-law Wanda Petch of Battle Creek; grandchildren Johnny (Jen) Mitchell, Jr., Brian Mitchell, Christopher (Brittney Mack) Adkins and Donna Finton; and great-grandchildren Kaitlyn Mitchell and Melanie Greenman.In addition to her husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Johnny Mitchell; her son-in-law, Patrick Adkins; her siblings, Carrie Cantrell, Jessie Parris, Ruby Dunning, Opal Jones, Louisa "Judy" Zugel, John Parris, Woodrow Parris and Randy Parris; and her grandson, Jeremy Adkins.Memorial contributions are suggested to .
