Ruth E. Becker1919 - 2013Ruth Becker, 93, of Sun Prairie passed away on Friday July 5, 2013 at Prairie Gardens.Ruth was born on Dec. 9, 1919 in Zion, Ill., the daughter of the late Albert and Blanch Anclam. She married Theodore W. Becker on Sept. 20, 1940, in Kenosha. Ruth lived in her little house on 14th Ave. in Kenosha for 68 years and served the community in a number of ways. She served as a Cub Scout Den Mother and later assisted in training other scout leaders. Ruth was employed by the Christian Youth Council (CYC) for many years as a secretary and also worked with the youth. After retiring she served as treasurer of the CYC Womens Auxiliary for over 20 years. In 1975 she served as treasurer for the Ecumenical Hunger Committee formed by 5 churches. It expanded and became the Kenosha County Interfaith Network and she served as the volunteer treasurer until 1993. She continued serving as a Board Member and the last few years was named an Honorary Board Member. Ruth was active in many leadership roles at Immanuel United Methodist Church where she was a member. Up until she was 90, she could be found each month at Immanuel UMC at 3 a.m. preparing breakfast for the Inns program. When it was Immanuel UMCs turn to staff the Shalom Center Soup Kitchen, she recruited the volunteers and cooked the large kettles of soup. Ruth also helped to organize the annual CROP Walk and served as treasurer for 30 years. Survivors include her children, Roger (Jackie) Becker of Sun Prairie, Allan (Laurice) Becker of Poquoson, Va.; grandchildren, Robin (Jeff) Kasparek of Beaver Dam, Wis., Beth (Robert) McNulty of Prairie du Sac, Wis., Michael Scott Becker, Seattle, Wash.; three great grandchildren, Kristen and Michael Kasparek, and Cassie McNulty. She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Becker, sisters, and brothers. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at Immanuel United Methodist Church, 5410-Sheridan Rd. Kenosha, WI 53140, from 10-11 a.m. with funeral services to follow at 11 a.m. Entombment will be at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park. Memorials can be made to Immanuel United Methodist Church of Kenosha; Shalom Center of Kenosha; or Agrace Hospice of Madison. The family greatly appreciates the care given by the staff of Meadowmere, Madison; Sun Prairie Health Care Center, Prairie Gardens CBRF and Agrace Hospice that made the last two years of her life as pleasant as possible.
