Montgomery, Roy TaylorRoy Taylor Montgomery, 75, passed away on Friday, March 31st, 2017 at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Franklin, Indiana.Roy was born on January 23rd, 1942 in Spencer County, Indiana to the late Robert and Enda Mae (Eigenmann) Montgomery. He married his wife, Kathryn Rover, on June 6th, 1964, celebrating fifty-two years of marriage together. Survivors include his wife, Kathryn; daughter, Karyn (James) Todor; son, Robert (Allison) Montgomery; granddaughters, Kaylin and Emily Todor; and Isabella, Zoe and Eliana Montgomery; and sister, Roberta Zimmermann. Roy was preceded in passing by his parents and five siblings.From his humble beginnings as a farm-boy attending a two-room schoolhouse in Spencer County, Indiana, Roy went on to earn his Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University in 1963 and his Law Degree from Indiana University School of Law in 1966.While at Purdue, Roy was a member of the Sigma Pi fraternity. He worked at Mercury Marine World Headquarters in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin for thirty years, supervising the seven-person law department and advancing to Vice President of Government and Industry Relations. He was respected internationally as a leader in the boating industry. Roy was particularly proud to lead the industry in standards development for outboard motor emissions, working directly with the EPA on this issue. He also played a key role in establishing four manufacturing joint ventures in Japan and China. Roy served as a member of the National Boating Safety Advisory Council from 1988 to 1994, and was the chairman of the National Marine Manufacturing Association in 1995. He retired from Mercury Marine in 2002.Roy and his beloved wife Kathryn lived in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin for forty years. Roy served the community as the YMCA president from 1978-1979, was on the Board of Directors of St. Agnes Hospital from 1988-1994, was on the City Council from 1993-1999, and was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church. His greatest joys were watching his family's athletic andmusical endeavours. He was an avid golfer and a fierce competitor in tennis. After moving to Franklin, Roy loved cheering on his five granddaughters. He also played tournament bridge with the Columbus and Indianapolis Bridge Clubs, falling just a few points short of his goal of becoming a Life Master. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where he and Kathryn enjoyed the Senior Lunch Bunch group.A celebration of Roy's life will be held on Wednesday, April 5th at 1:00 p.m. at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton Street (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin with calling on Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.
