Roy M. BernardLAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 4, 2017, at 11:00 am at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Lafayette for Roy M. Bernard, age 81, who died peacefully at 8:45 pm on Friday, January 27, 2017 at his residence in Lafayette, surrounded by his loving niece, his adopted son, and several friends that he loved dearly.Interment will be in Fountain Memorial Cemetery.The Reverend Joseph Daly and The Reverend Brandt Montgomery will conduct the funeral services. Jodi Bollich, vocalist, will sing for the services and will be accompanied by Emil Ivanov, violinist, Tom Lyles, guitarist, and Hannah Mayo, pianist. Musical selections are "Amazing Grace", "Here I Am Lord", "Be Still", and "Surely the Presence Of The Lord". Survivors include one brother, Russell Bernard and his wife Mary of Hanceville, AL; niece, Tammy Carpenter; great nephew, Ryan McCaig; great niece, Aimee White, great-great nephews, Gauge and Hunter White, and several other nieces, nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonce and Ella Marie Leblanc Bernard; seven sisters, Lula Bernard, Inez Bernard, Thelma "Tibbie" B. Comeaux, Florence "Flo" B. Guilbeau, Joyce B. Carpenter, Ann B. Mashaw and Odette B. Harrison; four brothers, Elmo, L.C., Russell "Mitch", and Howard Bernard.Roy Bernard was born on October 25, 1935 in Lafayette, Louisiana and was a lifelong resident of Lafayette. He was a graduate of the class of 1954 at Lafayette High School. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension for many years where he carried on his passion and flair of floral design in his ministries at the church. Roy loved his church and Cursillo family and he was well loved by all.Roy worked for Les Amis Florists for 20 years prior to establishing his own shop with his partner Al. Together they owned and operated Roy-Al Flowers and Gifts for 25 years. During his tenure as a florist, he received many awards, with his most esteemed being The Louisiana State Florist's Association Designer of the Year award in 1967.In his spare time, one of Roy's greatest passions was Mardi Gras. He was a member of the Krewe of Apollo and the Royal Order of Unicorn and was past royalty with each of the organizations. Also, one of his greatest joys and passions was Cursillo and he was well loved by his Cursillo family. In his younger days, he also enjoyed bowling. Roy was a passionate, giving, dedicated, selfless, fun loving, talented person who loved the Lord and helping others. He never knew a stranger and he was always the life of the party. If there wasn't a party, he made one!Pallbearers will be Kenny Hebert, Garland Romero, Joey Hodges, Brandon Bergeron, Leonard Derouen and Bryan Guidry.Honorary Pallbearers will be Mark Credeur, Chris Bienvenu, Pat Rauch, Ms. Bobby Raggio, Robert Hargis, Danny Delahoussaye, Jeffery Hill, M.D., and Michael Melancon.The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's SOUTHSIDE location on Friday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm and on Saturday from 8:00 am until time of service. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Gene Brierre.
