Pitz, Rosemarie RuthRosemarie Ruth Pitz, age 84, USN retired, of Oshkosh, passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Aurora Medical Center. She was born on July 24, 1932 the eldest of five children born to the late Gilbert M. and Cecilia G. (Cannon) Pitz. She was educated in Oshkosh schools graduating from Oshkosh High School in 1950 and the College of St. Theresa of Winona, Minnesota with a B.S. Degree in nursing. Rosemarie entered the US Navy in April of 1959 and permanently retired from the Navy in August of 1975 having been stationed at US Naval Hospitals in Jacksonsville, Florida; Rota, Spain; Great Lakes, Illinois; Bethesda, Maryland; Portsmouth, Virginia and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the Dispensary at the Philadelphia Pennsylvania Naval Shipyard. Rosemarie was a member of the Oshkosh Patriotic Council of which she had served as president for six years during which time she was responsible for organizing the Oshkosh Memorial Day Procession. She was a member of many organizations including, DAV Chapter 17, Post 70 of the American Legion, Post 70 of VVA, Chapter 437 of WAVES (Women of Sea Services) Unit 143, MOAA (Military Officers Association of America), APRL (Amateur Radio Relay League). During retirement years she was active in amateur radio (HAM radio) being station control operator of radio station aboard Queen Mary W6RO Long Beach, California. For several years she assisted with Long Beach marathons, California fires and 1984 Olympics as well as sailing regattas communication. Rosemarie became active in numerous veteran's organizations following her return to Wisconsin following her father's death. Besides being Adjutant, Treasurer and Service Officer of the DAV Local Chapter 17 for a number of years she was also the Commander of the Winnebago County American Legion County Council for six years and has been an active member of the United
Veterans Honor Guard. Survivors include a brother, Bernard Pitz and sisters, Elizabeth and Kathy C. Pitz, all of Oshkosh as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and many very dear friends. Rosemarie will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Having been a member of Most Blessed Sacrament Parish, St. Mary's Catholic Church, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for her at the church at the corner of Merritt and Monroe Avenues in Oshkosh on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. The Reverend William Van DeKreeke as celebrant. A time of visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery with full military honors to be given by her comrades of the United Veterans Honor Guards (with rifles recently purchased and provided to the group by Rosemarie).
