Rosa Maria Gallego de Urtuzuastegui passed to her peaceful rest on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at home surrounded by her loving family. Rosa Maria was born on August 9, 1932 in San Luis R.C. Sonora, Mexico. She grew up in Mexico with 8 sisters and one brother. Her parents were Concepcion Ramirez and Antonio Gallego.Rosa was a strong woman with a generous heart and a progressive spirit. She taught second and third grade in Mexico before she married. This served us well in that she taught us to read and write in Spanish before it was popular. She taught us what inclusion means through her raising a special needs child. Rosa was a dignified woman of integrity. She became a U.S. citizen and participated in the democratic process at every voting opportunity. She served her community through volunteerism at the hospital and her parish.Rosa is survived by her children; Frank A. Urtuzuastegui (Linda), Arthur Urtuzuastegui, Patricia Urtuzuastegui, Joseph Urtuzuastegui (Laura), and Cecilia A. Urtuzuastegui. In addition, she leaves 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She was preceeded in death by her youngest son, John A. Urtuzuastegui and her husband Joe B. Urtuzuastegui.A wake and rosary will be held on Friday July 29, 2016 from 7-9 p.m. at St. Francis Church on 8th Avenue and 18th Street. A funeral mass will be held Saturday July 30, 2016 at St. Francis Church at 9:30 a.m. followed by internment at Desert Lawn Cemetery. Rosa is deeply loved and will be missed by many.
