Roque R. "Rocky" Rosas passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2011. He was born on July 24, 1938.Rocky grew up in Yuma and graduated from Yuma Union High School, class of 1956. He received his Arizona Apprenticeship Certificate in 1959 and worked as a skilled carpenter and supervised jobs until his retirement in July 2000. Rocky proudly served in the United States Army from 1961 to 1963. He loved competitive sports. He played baseball and softball for 25 years and bowled in leagues for over 40 years. Rocky played in local pool leagues and was an avid golfer. He played semi-pro softball on C.B. Hardy's "Desert Sons" team in the early 70's. Rocky loved riding dirt bikes with his friends and family. He coached baseball and softball with a passion, coaching his wife in the 60's and his 3 children and many of their friends.Rocky was a man of few words. He was a good Christian and lived life to the fullest. He enjoyed being with his family and close friends. He had a passion for dancing which he was quite good at.Rocky is survived by his wife of almost 49 years, Lydia "Honey" Ruiz; sons, Rocky Jr. (Sandra), Robbie (Lisa DeVriendt) and daughter Renee (Robert) Weatherless; 9 grandchildren, Robbie Jr, Alexis, Raquel, Regina, Rocky III, Reese, Raegan and Ryan Rosas, Jordan Weatherless; sisters, Maria Elena Garcia, Lupe (Albert) Felix and brother Fernando (Pat) Rosas; Several nephews, nieces, aunts and cousins.Rocky is preceded in death by his father and mother, Roque V. and Esther Rosas and sister, Frances DeLosReyes.Wake will be held at Johnson Mortuary on Friday, November 11, 2011 starting at 5:00 p.m. Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be held Saturday, November 12, 2011 at St. Francis Catholic Church at 9:00 a.m. Viejo, Dad, Grandpa, we love you and we will always miss you.
