Ronald L. SchmitzFREMONT: Fremont resident Ronald L. Schmitz, 83, passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at ProMedica Memorial Hospital, Fremont. He was born on January 17, 1934 in Fremont to Charles and Helen (Moneghan) Schmitz.Ronald was the co-owner of Bud & Ronnies Sinclair before working at the Sandusky Township Maintenance Garage for 38 years. Ron was the owner of Schmitz Cider Mill that opened over 40 years ago. Anyone who knew Ron knew that the fire department was his life. He was a founding member of the Sandusky Township Volunteer Fire Department. Ron was also member of Grace Lutheran Church.On May 15, 1954, Ronald married Barbara Smith at Grace Lutheran Church; she survives. Also surviving are children, Steven Schmitz of Fremont, JoAnn (Bruce) Gibson of Miami, FL, and Deborah Evans of Fremont; grandchildren, Cody (Kelsey) Oakleaf, Wyatt Oakleaf, Hayley Kay (Tim) Hay, Deena Gibson and Jett Oakleaf; great-grandchildren, Audrey Sophia Hay, Rylee Oakleaf and Dakota Oakleaf; and sister, Mary Carnicom of Fremont.He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Jean Michel, Barbara Swartz and Charles Schmitz.Visitation will be held on Friday, February 17, 2017 at the Herman-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont from 3:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Grace Lutheran Church beginning at 10:00 a.m., where there will be an additional hour of visitation prior to the service. Certified Celebrant Maureen Pump will officiate.
