Moran, 77, of Granger, Indiana, passed away at 11:41 a.m. Thursday, November 17, 2016, at Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis, Indiana. Tom was born on September 23, 1939, in Hammond, Indiana, to Francis and Eleanor (Andy) Moran. He had lived in the South Bend area since 1991, coming from the Calumet region. Tom retired from LTV Steel in East Chicago. He is survived by his wife, Theodora “Teddie” Bergunder, of 45 years, whom he married on April 17, 1971, in Crown Point, Indiana. Also surviving are two daughters, April Moran of Dyer, Indiana, and Kathleen Moran of Granger, Indiana; one son, Michael Moran of Lafayette, Indiana; six grandchildren, Nathaniel, Noah, Cassandra, Zachariah, Mattia and Matthew; and two sisters, Shirley Moran of Wanatah, Indiana, and Janice Hemphill of Michigan City, Indiana. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Eleanor Moran; his grandparents, John and Jenevieve Andy; two granddaughters, Carissa and Michaela Moran; and two sisters, Linda and Phyllis Hemphill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 23, 2016, in Christ the King Catholic Church. Military Services will be conducted by the United States Army and members of the American Legion Post #284 immediately following the Mass. A visitation will take place from 2:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive. Burial will take place in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Tom was a member of Christ the King Parish. He also served in the United States Army from 1957-1961, where he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Letter of Commendation, Sharpshooter Badge (Missile) and Marksman Badge (Carbine). Tom enjoyed his training and command of Nike missiles. Tom was a lifetime blood donor as long as he was able. He was a Notre Dame fan since the early 1940s when his dad took him to his first game and followed the news. He could befriend anyone from a person in a waiting room to a passerby in a parking lot and believed in making the world a better place than when he entered it. His most recent and favorite pastime was attending weekly movies with his daughter, Kathleen. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Salvation Army.
