Thuecks, RolandRoland A. Thuecks, 87, of New Holstein passed away with his family at his side, Saturday morning October 29, 2016 at Rocky Knoll Health Care Center. He was born on March 11, 1929 on the Thuecks Homestead in Kloten, son of the late John & Rose (See) Thuecks. Rollie attended Lowell School for 3 years, Holy Rosary Catholic School and was a 1947 graduate of New Holstein High School.On June 23, 1951 he was united in marriage to the former Ethel Mae Turba. Rollie was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, serving his country during the Korean War from March 26, 1951 to March 25, 1953 with most of his time being stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. Following his discharge, Rollie and Ethel moved to St. Anna. Rollie worked at Leverenz Shoe Factory from 1950 until 1955 and the Kiel Bottle Works from 1955 until 1961. In 1962 the couple moved to Greenbush and operated Vick's Corner Tavern. In 1964 the couple moved to Elkhart Lake and operated Rollie & Ethel's Bar until 1967. Rollie went on to work with the Elkhart Lake-Glenbuelah School from 1967 until 1989. He later worked at Lauer Paint Co. from 1989 until 1992 when he retired. Rollie was an active member since 1965 of the Haslee-Doebert-Schmidt American Legion Post #261 Greenbush. He held the position of Commander from 2005-2009 as well as Chaplin for 8 years. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Elkhart Lake. He was involved with St. Vincent DePaul for more than 20 years, serving as President for 5 years & was a member of Catholic Knights Society for more than 50 years.Rollie served as Elkhart Lake Village President from 1969 until 1987. In 2005, Rollie and Ethel moved to New Holstein. Ethel preceded him in death on January 25, 2009.In his free time he enjoyed painting, wood working, gardening, bird watching, collecting coins and gambling. Rollie especially enjoyed tending bar at Hollywood, Schwartz Supper Club, Elite, Wagner Lanes and Anchor Lanes. Most important to Rollie was the time he could spend with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and his K-9 companion, Whiskers.Survivors include his six children: Charlotte (David) Limberg, Cheryl (Steve) Lueloff, Karen (Stu) Sturzl, Wayne (Kay) Thuecks, Mitchell (Anne Sentowski) Thuecks, Lynne Keller and Connie Thuecks. He is further survived by twelve grandchildren, Matthew (Christine) Thuecks, Jeremy (Sara) Lueloff, Danielle Schulz, Jason (Nikki) Eigenberger, Geri Lynn (John Ericksen) Eigenberger, Kenneth Sturzl, Rebecca (friend, Aaron Pfaff) Thuecks, Heston (April) Thuecks, Ceann (Fiance, Eric Nass) Thuecks, Cindi (special friend, Dan Bettack) Keller, Keith (Jessica) Keller, Megan (Fiance, Jacob Hoogstra) Keller, fourteen great grandchildren with three more on the way, sisters-in-law, Lillian (Roger) Brandt & Judy Thuecks along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends including Whiskers, his black lab. In addition to his parents and his father-in-law & mother-in-law, Leo & Clara Turba, he was also preceded in death by his grandson, Daniel Thuecks, granddaughter Leah Keller, two brothers; Roman Thuecks, Jerome (Donna) Thuecks, sisters-in-law, Virginia (Ernest) Merten & Carol (Richard) Lauer and Lynne's special friend, Mark Brand.Funeral Mass for Rollie will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday November 2, 2016 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church (94 S. Lincoln St. Elkhart Lake) with Rev. Dennis VanBeek officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
