Roger was a larger than life personality who loved his family, his community, and sports of all kinds, from professional teams to those competing at the local high schools. "Snookie," as he was known as a kid, was born on February 2, 1944 in Oneida, NY. He was one of 10 children born to Thelma and James LaLonde. He was a gifted athlete in school, exceling at both baseball and basketball. Continuing his love of sports off the field, he spent several years as a sports journalist. The couple moved to Marco Island, FL where Roger re-kindled his love of sports journalism by writing for the Marco Eagle and the Naples Daily News. He covered almost every sport for the local prep teams and became one of their biggest fans. Rain or shine, Roger was on the sidelines taking photos, recording stats and rooting them on. Roger was heavily involved in his community as a member of the Marco Chamber, East Naples Civic Association, Morning Kiwanis, Knights of Columbus, Marco Realtors Association, and he was a 50-year member of the Loyal Order of Moose.
