This obituary is administered by:
Robert William ZitterkopfMarch 16, 1932 - January 8, 2015You Get What You Get And Don't Throw A FitRobert (Bob) William Zitterkopf, age 82, of Pocatello, Idaho, passed away following an illness on January 8, 2015, with family members by his side. He was born on March 16, 1932 in Morrill, Nebraska to Jacob and Marie (Aschenbrenner) Zitterkopf. His parents were German immigrants that were born in Russia. The family, who were farmers, immigrated to the Scottsbluff, Nebraska area. Thereafter, the family moved to the Hansen, Idaho area. At the age of 10 he met the love of his life, Bettylou Barnhill when he grabbed her hand saying that he'd walk her to school since the school bus was late. They were lifetime sweethearts, giving them 71 years of unforgettable memories. They married on March 31st in Eli, Nevada and settled in Twin Falls, Idaho to raise their family and later moved to Pocatello, Idaho.Dad worked at Brennan Construction as a superintendent for many years and had a very dedicated work ethic. Building was his passion and he took great pride in his work. Dad never asked the employees to do anything that he wouldn't do himself and he worked right alongside of them. Dad made lifelong friends with the Brennan family and other co-workers.During his tenure with Brennan Construction, he met Vic Kmetz and they became "racing" buddies. They were fierce competitors and won many races at Pocatello Speedway. The boys helped Dad and Vic with the mechanics and bodywork, with the girls being in charge of making sure the machine looked sharp before race night.Dad thoroughly loved to go "wood-choppin", hunting, fishing, camping, growing a food garden as well as floral garden and having the family around the table for various dinners and gatherings. He was especially proud of receiving the Golden Arrow Award for his yard. When one of the family members shot wild game, it was hung in the garage and the "call chain" was begun. Family members were recruited in order to clean, cut and wrap. The same "call chain" was initiated when it came time for canning.Dad ruled with an iron hand but played twice as hard. He had seven children living in his home, but was Dad to many. He was proud to teach young people. He enjoyed being a part of all his childrens' lives and had special relationships with his grandkids. Dad always said, "If I had a choice to return any of my kids, I wouldn't return a one of them".Dad's wit will be sorely missed. He was a great prankster, but would give you credit for the great pranks where he was on the receiving end. It was nothing for him to try to one-up you, even if it meant that the hose came in the house in the middle of a water fight. Mom got new carpet and furniture after that little incident. His co-workers were the brunt of many pranks on the job. They gave as good as they got.Dad will be greatly missed, but has blessed us with the privilege of having been in our lives.Dad was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Marie; his wife, Bettylou Zitterkopf, one sister, Betty Kuder; one brother, Don. He is survived by one sister, Mary Ash (Boise), his seven children: Paula (Stephen) Larsen, Douglas (Carrie) Zitterkopf, Larry (Deb) Zitterkopf, Patricia (Wade) Semons, Henry (Delynn) Zitterkopf, Robert (Diane) Zitterkopf and Penny (Dirk) Wilson along with eighteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild.A memorial service will be held at Downard Funeral Home, 241 North Garfield Avenue, Pocatello, Idaho on Saturday, January 17th at 2:00 p.m.
