PORTSMOUTH - Robert W. "Bob" Young, 85, of Portsmouth and formerly of Kittery, Maine, passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at home, surrounded by loving family. He was born on November 18, 1931, a son of Roland and Madeline Tuttle; attended local schools and was a graduate of Traip Academy. Bob served his country for four years in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Upon returning from his service in the Air Force, Bob became employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, retiring from the SRA Office in 1988. He served on the Kittery Town Council as Chairman and was a Northeast Credit Union board member for nearly 40 years. Bob was devoted to many civic organizations including the Primetime Club and Traip Academy Golden Grads; was also a member and past president of the Kittery Historical & Naval Museum and an over 50 year member of Naval Lodge #184 AF & AM in Kittery. In 2004, he met Kathleen Young-Thomson and they enjoyed many years of traveling; then on December 21, 2010, Bob and Kathy were united in a commitment ceremony at Nubble Lighthouse in York, Maine. Bob was predeceased by his daughter, Valerie Jay (Young) Doyle and her mother, Mary (Spinney) Young and his second wife, Nancy (Scott) Young and her son, Tommy Hutchinson. Survivors include his life partner, Kathleen Young-Thomson of Portsmouth; a son, Michael C. Young and his wife, Lynda of Kittery, Maine; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Bob is also survived by his special family in Seattle Washington. SERVICES: A time of visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., on Monday, December 12, 2016, at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, Maine. A funeral will immediately follow at 12 p.m., at the Funeral Home with Rev, Brad Hirst, officiating. Interment with military honors will be held privately at Orchard Grove Cemetery in Kittery, Maine. Family flowers only.
