This obituary is administered by:
Robert Kieth GrayMay 27, 1932 - May 21, 2016 Robert Kieth Gray, 83, died on 21 May 2016 after a battle with prostate cancer. He was born on 27 May 1932 to Lloyd O.and Grace M. (Glassburn) Gray in Clio, Michigan. Robert "Bob" (or "Kieth" as he was known in Michigan) was raised on a dairy farm. In 1950, he joined the U.S. Navy and trained as an Aviation Mechanic. After becoming a Petty Officer, he applied for and was accepted into the Naval Aviation Cadet program where he went to flight school and was commissioned as a Naval Pilot. He flew a variety of planes and enjoyed traveling, being stationed in Cuba, Iceland, Italy, Florida, California and Louisiana. He made over 1000 successful night Carrier landings and flew in the movie "Tora! Tora! Tora!" He retired in 1976, after 27 years, and moved to S. Lake Tahoe, Ca., where he worked at Meek's lumber and built Spec Homes. In 1980, he and Toni purchased their first RV and began traveling the country. They spent 20 years as Volunteers in Park Service and were Camp Hosts in Yosemite NP (Calif), Acadia NP (Maine), and Lathom SP (Calif). He loved camping. He loved to square dance. He loved singing. And, he loved to play golf. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus (St. John Neuman Catholic Church) and a member of the Yuma Barbershop Choir. He was a volunteer with the Yuma Foothills Helping Hands. And he held memberships in the MOAA, American Legion, Elks and Moose lodges. But, most important, he was a loving husband and father, a proud family man, and a good friend. Bob/Kieth is survived by his wife of 59 years, Toni Gray (Figone); daughters Layne (Tim) Weir and Donna Crane; grandchildren Nicholas and Kate Weir, Hoyt and Robert Scott (Sierrah) Crane and five great grandchildren; brothers Mike (Marianne) and Brian (Diane) Gray; Brothers-in-law Albert J "Bert" (Sharon) and Alan J (Jan) Figone; and a myriad of nieces and nephews and extended family and friends. A special thank-you to Hospice of Yuma for the wonderful support they provided and especially to his nurse, Valerie, who he looked forward to seeing every week, and his personal care assistant, Ernie, who was tender to the end. Services will be held on Friday, 27 May 2016, at 9 a.m. at St. John Neumann Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Hospice of Yuma, 1824 S. 8th Ave, Yuma, Az, 85364.
