Schattl, Robert J.Our dear Bob walked through the Gates of Heaven and into the arms of Jesus, Our Lord, on November 13, 2016, after a long and courageous battle with prostate cancer. Bob was born on September 27, 1931, in Matoon, to the late Frank and Katherine (Fischer) Schattl. He was the youngest of nine children.Bob proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He earned three Bronze Stars and the Infantryman's Medal, of which he was especially proud. Bob married Carmen Metzdorf in Wausau, on May 17, 1952. He was employed as a machinist at the JJ Plank Company for over 47 years. Bob could best be described as a kind hearted, patient and generous man who deeply loved his family. He was very proud of each of them and their accomplishments. Bob was well-known for his mechanical skills and ability to "fix things." He focused on fixing clocks, and tinkering with anything with a motor. Bob enjoyed trout fishing, deer hunting, sheepshead, polkas, flea markets, ice skating, yard work, and especially Christmas celebrations with the family.Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Carmen; his children, René (Bob) Heimann; Mike (Bonnie) Schattl; and Kelly (Gloria) Schattl; his grandchildren, Matthew (Vicky) Heimann and John (Jenny) Heimann, Christopher Schattl and Katie (Scott) Salvinski; his great grandchildren, Dylan Heimann, Ashton and Makayla Heimann, and Mason Salvinski. The Funeral Liturgy will be at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 17, 2016, at ST. PIUS X CATHOLIC CHURCH, 500 W. Marquette Street, Appleton, with Fr. Thomas J. Farrell officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau, on Friday. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the physicians and staff of Fox Valley Hematology and Oncology, Dr. Anthony Phillips, and the staff at Brewster Village, for their loving care.
