Robert J. SaldanaTYE, TXRobert J. Saldana, 84, of Tye, Tx, passed away September 13, 2017. Visitation will begin at 6:00PM followed by a rosary beginning at 7:00PM, Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. A funeral mass will be at 10:00AM, Friday, September 15, 2017 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 5410 Buffalo Gap Rd. Robert was born on July 22, 1933 to Mike and Juanita Saldana. After completing school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he proudly served in the Korean Conflict. Following his time in the Air Force he and his father worked on the railroad in Alaska. He married the love of his life Hilda in December of 1958. Robert and Hilda celebrated 58 wonderful years of marriage together. Robert spent over 27 years in Civil service during those years he attended Barber College and cut hair locally part time. After retirement he worked part time for San Antonio Lighthouse for the blind. He was an avid golfer even having a whole in one recorded at Mesquite Grove Golf Course. He loved all sports and especially the Washington RedSkins. Most of all, he loved his family and was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Juanita Saldana; his son, Rene Saldana; his brother, Alvino Saldana, Aurelio Saldana; and his sister, Nettie Moreno. He is survived by his wife, Hilda Saldana; his children, Robert Saldana Jr., wife Diane and Diana Reid, husband Gerald; sister, Irene Cantu; grandchildren, Corey, Ashley, Christopher, Aaron, wife Lacey, Victoria, Wyatt, Gerald Wayne, Britton, and Emily; his great-grandchildren, Cailana, Evan, Brynleigh, Harper, Lenora, Leslie, and Nyssa; and several nieces and nephews.
