Robert Henry Howard, 90, of Mooresville, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at his residence. He was born on December 12, 1925 in Iredell County, to the late Henry Durant and Lottie Mae Howard.Robert was a lifelong resident of Mooresville; he was a graduate of Brawley High School. Later he served in the United States Navy, following his return he was a rural letter carrier for 27 years and held numerous roles with the National Rural Letter Carriers Association. Robert was also a successful farmer; he was awarded Young Farmer of the Year in 1959 by the Mooresville Chamber of Commerce. Robert was a faithful member of Williamson's Chapel United Methodist Church, Mooresville for over 50 years. Mr. Howard always helped his community and had donated over 20 Gallons of Blood to the American Red Cross throughout his life. Robert also enjoyed reading and he continued to learn during his life as well as sharpening his skills in trades such as welding and farming. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Frankie Call Howard; sisters, Rachel Spears, Mary Bethel Neel and Ruth Sloop.He is survived by his daughters, Janice Simpson (Larry) of Asheboro, Nell Weddington (Garry) of Cleveland, Faye Freeze (Larry) of Mooresville, Patty Arts (Jeff) of South Dakota; sons, Franklin Howard (Yvonne) of Burlington, David Howard (Matalie) of Lynchburg, Va; sister, Elizabeth "Lib" Shinn of Huntersville; fourteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and special friends, Everett and Walli Conn.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, November 20 at Williamson's Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Jan Brittain and Rev. Mark Pitts officiating. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
