Hartkopf, RobertRobert G. Hartkopf passed away on November 24, 2016 at University Hospital in Madison, WI. Bob was born on May 21, 1922 in Wausau, Wisconsin to Robert and Bertha Hartkopf, and spent most of his life there. In 1936, he graduated from Trinity Lutheran School, and in 1940, he graduated from Wausau Senior High School. Bob is a
Veteran of
World War II, serving in the Southwest Pacific Theatre of Operation from February 1943 to November 1945. He served in Saidor and Hitapi, New Guinea and Leyte and Southern Luzon, Philippine Islands. As a result of his service, he was awarded three campaign stars. In addition, he earned the
Bronze Star as a reward for the manner in which he performed his assigned duties under difficult and hazardous conditions. Bob was a proud member of the
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 388 and the American Legion Post 10.On May 24, 1948 Bob married Vivian Huber. Vivian passed away October, 8, 2004. They had two children, Robert J Hartkopf (deceased) and Judith A Langhoff. Bob was employed by the Marathon County Sheriff's Department for 32 years, both as a Highway Patrol Officer and a Detective. Upon his retirement from law enforcement, he was employed as an Insurance Claims Adjuster in Wausau. Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian, his son, Robert J., his parents, and his two brothers, Harold and Gordon. He is survived by his daughter, Judith (Bruce) Langhoff of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, his sister, Sharon Glasel of Menasha, Wisconsin and his sister-in-law, Mavis (Gordon) Hartkopf of Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Grandchildren include Michael (Carey) Hartkopf of Katy, Texas, Theresa (Michael) Larson of Eau Claire, Wisconsin and Thomas (Amanda) Langhoff of Franklin, Wisconsin. Great grandchildren include Aidan and Brenna Hartkopf and Landon Larson.Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Zion Lutheran Church, 709 6th St, Wausau. Reverend Steven Gjerde will officiate. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until the time of services at the church. Guests are invited to a luncheon at the church following the service. There will be a private burial with full military honors at Pine Grove Cemetery, Wausau. Brainard Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
