JANESVILLE - Robert E. (Bob) Schmeckel died on Friday, August 24th at Huntington Place Advanced Memory Care, Janesville, WI. He was born on December 5th, 1928 in Bristol, the son of the late William and Helena (Wienke) Schmeckel. He married Janette F. Schaefer on February 11, 1956 at St Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Brighton, WI. They lived on the family farm in Kansasville, WI until 2011. Bob was a man of quiet faith who loved his family and took special pride in each one of his thirteen grandchildren. He was a dairy farmer all his life and had a true love of the land and of his animals. He was happiest when he was outdoors and on a tractor. In his later years, you could find him spending time on the farm with his dog, Willy, or sitting on a bale of straw in the barn surrounded by all his cats and kittens. And he always enjoyed playing a few hands of Sheepshead with family and friends. He will be remembered by his wife Janette and his children Peter (Sharon) Schmeckel of Union Grove, Mary (Steven) Merkel of Fort Atkinson, James Schmeckel of Union Grove, Thomas (Lisa) Schmeckel of Whitewater and Susan (David) Porter of Pewaukee. He will also be deeply missed by his grandchildren; Jeffrey Schmeckel of Kansasville, Tracy Schmeckel of Burlington, Joellen Schmeckel of Union Grove; Jason (Sarah) Merkel of Circle Pines, MN, Brian (Elizabeth) Merkel of Lino Lakes, MN, Sarah (Mitch) VonRuden of Eau Claire; Lauren Otto of Milton, Tommy (Laura) Schmeckel of Whitewater, Kristen and Caitlyn Schmeckel of Whitewater; Matthew, Mark and Michael Porter of Pewaukee and many nieces and nephews. Bob was proceeded in death by his youngest son, Timothy in 2010, and his brother Russell Schmeckel, his sister Helen Franz and sister Alice in infancy. The visitation will take place at St. Francis Xavier Church on Thursday, August 30 from 9am - 11:30 am. The Mass of Christian Burial officiated by Father Russell Arnett will begin at 11:30.
