Robert D. Brown, 84, of DeMotte passed away July 29, 2016, at his home.  He was born on Aug., 25, 1931 in Parke County, Indiana, to Walter C. Brown, Sr. and Edna Faye Larison.On Feb. 4, 1976, in Hebron, Bob married Carol Jane Thornton who passed away Oct. 23, 2009.  Bob grew up in Parke County, Indiana, and graduated from Bridgeton High School.  He furthered his studies and graduated from  Indiana State University, Terre Haute, and received his Master's degree in math from St. Louis University.  A retired math teacher, Bob taught a total of 24 years at the DeMotte, Valparaiso and Merrillville High Schools.Bob was a devoted member of the DeMotte United Methodist Church where he enjoyed helping and serving others.  He was a Life Member of the National Education Association and the American Motorcyclist Association.  At the young age of 55, Bob started motorcycle/enduro racing and enjoyed the sport immensely.  He was active in many motorcycle clubs including the former DeMotte Trail Riders and the Hill & Gully Club.  He was the former owner and operator of the BNC Cycle Center in Roselawn and the former store manager of McFarland's Cycle Center in DeMotte.  When Bob wasn't racing motorcycles, he enjoyed a casual game of golf.Bob and his family wish to express their gratitude and thanks to Duke and Debbie Thornton and J.R. and Mary Lou Gross for their love and support, to Vicki and the staff at Unity Hospice and all the friends who visited and brought food to his home during his illness.Bob is survived by his three children: Terri (James) Richardson of West Terre Haute, IN, Jerri (Mick) Fuson of Farmersburg, IN, and Ward (Laurie Gregory) Brown of Los Angeles, CA; step-children, Lance (Sherri) Cheever of Jeffersonville, IN, Laine (Maureen) Cheever of Evanston, IL and Lyle (Colleen) Cheever of Traverse City, MI; God-Daughter, Sarah Fugett of South Haven, IL; Brother, Richard (Earlene) Brown of Whitney, TX, Sister-in-Law, Betty Brown of Terre Haute, IN; six grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.He was proceeded in death by his parents, his wife, 2 brothers and 1 sister.Friends may visit with family on Thursday, Aug. 4, 2016, from 2 to 7 p.m. at the DeMotte United Methodist Church. A Celebration of Life will be held immediately following at 7 p.m. with Rev.
