LAGRANGE — Robert G. Burroughs Jr., 81, of LaGrange, Indiana, died Wednesday, October 22, 2014, at Parkview LaGrange Hospital. Mr. Burroughs was born on June 15, 1933, in Sidney, Ohio, to Robert W. and Waneta I. (Evans) Burroughs. Living most of his lifetime in LaGrange County, he worked for 39 years at LaGrange County REMC, retiring as the manager. He served in the
United States Navy in the
Korean Conflict. Mr. Burroughs was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in LaGrange, Indiana, Meridian Sun Lodge No. 76 F & AM in LaGrange which he was a past worshipful master, Fort Wayne Valley Scottish Rite, Mizpah Shrine, LaGrange County Shrine Club, Sylvan Chapter No. 251 Order of Eastern Star of LaGrange and the former LaGrange County Lions Club. He was the recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash in 1995, a 50-year member of LaGrange American Legion Post No. 215, a former member of the LaGrange County Police Merit Board, and a former board member of Wabash Valley Power Association. On April 5, 1953, in LaGrange, Indiana, he married Margo J. Paulus. Mrs. Burroughs preceded him in death on June 18, 2010. Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Catherine Schweitzer of White House, Tennessee, and Roberta "Bobbi" and Dick Craig of LaGrange, Indiana; three sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Kate Burroughs of Carmel, Indiana, David and Jenny Burroughs of Wolcottville, Indiana, and Michael and Cathy Burroughs of Howe, Indiana; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren. His parents, Robert W. Sr. and Waneta I. Burroughs, and a sister, Nyla Olds, also preceded him in death. Funeral services will take place on Friday, October 24, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Frurip-May Funeral Home in LaGrange, Indiana. The Rev. Kenneth Weaver will officiate the services. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in LaGrange, Indiana. LaGrange American Legion Post No. 215 will conduct military graveside services. Visitation will take place on Friday from 9 a.m. until the service time at 11 a.m. Memorials are to Mt. Zion Lutheran Church or Parkview Home Health and Hospice.
