Richard Paul JohnsonNaplesRichard "Dick" Johnson, 81 of Naples, FL, formerly of Needham MA and Osterville MA passed away on June 19, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was born on August 17, 1935 in Malden, MA, a son of the late George Johnson and Olive Getty Johnson. Dick grew up in Woburn, MA and graduated from Woburn High School where he excelled academically and athletically. He was affectionally nicknamed "lefty" for his pitching prowess. He continued his baseball career at Northeastern University and later completed The Advanced Management Program at Harvard University. He was a leader by nature and enjoyed a very successful career in retail including Jewel Companies, Hickory Farms and ultimately owner and operator of Brighams Ice Cream and Sandwich Shops.He was an avid golfer, a former member of Charles River Country Club, The Oyster Harbor Club and most recently, a thirty year member of Bonita Bay Golf Club. His passion for golf was well known and he was proud of the fact that he frequently shot his age or better. Richard was beloved by friends and family far and wide and often described to have a personality that was "larger than life".Most meaningful of all to him was his family. He leaves his wife of fifty eight years and the "love of his life" Martha Whittemore Johnson; daughters Laura (David) Olmstead of Orland Park, IL, Sandra (Jeffrey) Dumart, and Pamela (Burt) Lueth both of Franklin, MA. Beloved "Huhu" of 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, all of whom he encouraged to pursue their passion and dreams. Brother of Janice D'Auria and Gail Bouley. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by four brothers; George, Frederick and Walter Johnson and Theodore Dascoli.A memorial service will be held at 11am on Friday, July 14, 2017 at Naples United Church of Christ, 5200 Crayton Road, Naples, FL.
