Richard F. Rowan Obituary

May 24, 1936 - Jan 26, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
Richard "Ray" F. Rowan, age 80, of Hiawatha Street in Brookville, PA, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2016, as a patient of the Penn Highlands Brookville Hospital. Ray was born on May 23, 1936, in Brookville, PA, to the late Irvin L. and Orpha (Fenstermaker) Rowan. On June 30, 1956, he married Helen L. (Osborne) Rowan, in Brookville, PA;  2016 marked 60 years of marriage as Helen survives him.  After Ray graduated from high school he went to work for the paper mill in North Tonawanda, NY. He then made his way back to Brookville and began working for Sterks on Main St., now known as Deman's. As his experience grew he moved jobs to across the street working for Brookville Bank and Trust, now known as S & T Bank. He eventually made his final career change as he became a salesman for Prudential Insurance. His work ethic was a great attribute and he moved up to become a sales manager. In 1991, and at the age of 55, he retired; he was very proud of where he came from and working hard to achieve his goals. Ray was a devoted and active member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Brookville, PA. He was also a member of the Hobah Lodge 276, in Brookville PA, and was a 32 degree Mason with the Coudersport Consistory. Ray and Helen have spent time volunteering as youth leaders for their church as well. They loved to travel together and they would "winter" in Florida.  Ray was very adventurous  and enjoyed being active while being outdoors. Some activities include riding his mountain bike or his motor cycle, skiing, camping, and especially kayaking. He loved and looked forward to spending time with his kids and grandchildren while hunting or fishing. He kept his working life busy, his retired life active, and his family life filled with love and memories; his example of being a family man carries forward with his children, and theirs. In addition to his wife Helen, Ray is survived by 1 son; Tim (Linda) Rowan; 2 daughters; Kathy Murray and her partner Matt McConnel; Darlene (Tom) Johnston; 1 brother; Verl (Ginge) Rowan; 1 granddaughter; Kelsie Murray; 5 grandsons; Scott (Kate) Rowan, Seth (Lindsay) Murray, Justin (Lenzee) Johnston, Shane (Mayura Phanjun) Johnston, Ben Murray, Andy (Megan) Rowan; 10 great-grandchildren; Austin, Hannah, Hunter, Jase, Owen, Marlowe, Malin, Olivia, Tegin, and Lana, with number 11 on the way. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  In addition to his parents, Ray is preceded in death by 9 siblings; Louise (Jay) Bowser, Viola (Dick) Walsh, Trudy (Jay) Bowser, Faye (Bob) Ferloin, Ruby (Stan) Irwin, Virginia (Ken) Darr, Lee (Doris) Rowan, Burt (Alda) Rowan, Bob (Doris) Rowan; and 1 great-grandchild; Morgan Rowan. Family and friends will be received on Friday, October 28, 2016, at the McKinney - d'Argy Funeral Home, ltd, 345 Main St., Brookville, PA, 15825, from 2 - 4pm and 6 - 8pm. A second visitation will take place on Saturday, October 29, 2016, from 10 - 11am, at the Evangelical United Methodist Church, 30 S. White St., Brookville, PA, 15825. A funeral service will immediately follow the viewing at the Church, beginning at 11:00am, and officiated by the Rev. Chuck Jack. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Evangelical United Methodist Church. Online condolences and other information may be found at www.mckinneydargy.com
