Richard Dale Hansen, age 88, of Oscoda, formerly of Fairbanks, Alaska, passed away on Monday, Feb. 16, 2015 at Tendercare Nursing Home in Tawas City. He was born on Oct. 21, 1926 in Nisula to the late Ralphord and Genevieve Hansen (nee Kelly). Richard joined the
United States Navy in 1944 and served during
World War II on the LST-1046 in the Pacific Theater. He met the love of his life, Dolores Ann Meldrum, in 1948 and proposed to her only weeks after meeting. They were married on June 23, 1951 at Immaculate Conception Church on the Chena River in downtown Fairbanks, Alaska. Richard owned and operated Hansen Roofing in both Fairbanks, Alaska and Oscoda. He was a member of the American Legion and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oscoda, as well as a member of the
BPOE and Fairbanks Curling Club in Fairbanks, Alaska. Richard was the treasurer for the Michigan LST Association. In his later years, he enjoyed trips to the Oscoda/AuSable Senior Center and bird watching with his wife. Richard is survived by his wife, Dolores Hansen; children, Ralph (Nancy) Hansen, Bill (Joyce) Hansen, Cheri (Dave) Funk, Patti (Felix) Godoy, Jeffrey Hansen, Rebecca (Terry) Allison and Linda (Kirk Brasher) Hansen; brothers, Don (Dorothy) Hansen and Robert (Ann) Hansen; sister, Jeannie Lee; grandchildren, Megan Hansen, Ryan Hansen, Chris (Gretchen) Hansen, Brian Haynes, Amber (Jon) Fadeyi, Jessica Hansen, Jayme (Nate) Nagel, Chelsea (Brennan) Rottman, Jimmy Godoy, Shannon Allison, Terry Allison and Mason Ulrich; great grandchildren, Gere Hansen, Grace Hansen, Grant Hansen, Greta Hansen, Jazmyne Simpson, Ayshia Fadeyi, Abiola Fadeyi, Oludara Fadeyi, Olukemi Fadeyi, Nathan Nagel and Caleb Nagel; and great-great grandchild, Charleigh Fadeyi. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his step-father, Ray Kauffman; son, David Hansen; brothers, Joe and Ron Hansen; sisters, Shirley Orand and Patsy Hansen; and step-brother, Raymond Kauffman.
