This obituary is administered by:
Koessler, Richard "Dick" Alvin Richard "Dick" Alvin Koessler, age 87, of Cave Creek, AZ passed away peacefully of congenital heart disease in his sleep at 2:20 am November 29, 2016, at Hospice of the Valley Eckstein Center in Scottsdale. He was born on July 18, 1929 in Chicago, IL to Alvin and Corine (Fetterer) Koessler. He attended Catholic Schools including St. Hilary, St. Gregory High School, and Loyola University. He played trumpet & snare drums. He also took English and Spanish Courses from the University of Berkley, CA and Business Administration & Sales Psychology courses from Phoenix College. He married Rosemary Ann Abernathy on January 8, 1955 in Evanston, IL. They were married for 59 years before she passed away. In his younger years, Dick spent 9 years in AZ due to his life threatening asthma. He worked with his father on a citrus & date grove. They also innovated date picking and packaging equipment. Returning to IL he spent 20 years in construction, advancing to building high quality custom homes with his company Koessler Const. Co. in Northbrook. Dick and his wife were great partners both in business and their personal life. While living in IL they loved to go out dancing, and enjoyed boating, dining, hockey games, traveling and taking family vacations. He was also an avid sports car enthusiast. Dick described driving his Dino as an exhilarating experience being able to forget all about work when participating in road rallies, and amateur road races. He was also a passionate reader. In 1975 he, his wife, and youngest son James moved back to AZ. Retiring from his homebuilding career, he took a short break, and then acquired his real estate license, and eventually his real estate broker's license. While earning several listing and dollar volume sales awards, he had an opportunity to purchase a prominent real estate company that became known as Koessler & Associates in Carefree. He continued to enjoy boating and traveling with his wife, but also extended his hobbies into hiking and cooking. He also joined the board of directors of the local Chamber of Commerce, and several years later became President. Dick was a real people person making friends everywhere he went. After retiring from real estate he always stayed active. He and his wife became heavily involved with a charity program known as Cassettes for Vets at the AZ State Veterans Home in Phoenix. They also went to the local parks daily to shoot hoops. During the holidays of Halloween and Christmas, he took great pride in his decorations and lighting display, as well as preparing special packets of sweets for the children who dared to go to the front door. Above all his favorite highlight of the week was attending "The Casa", always arriving early, fellowshipping before and after service, and sitting in the front row. Dick truly lived life to the fullest, and often shared how God was blessing him abundantly with good friends and neighbors from church and his local community. Dick is survived by his three son's John, Tom and James, his grandchildren Kenneth, Tom Jr., Jeannie and Miles, and his great grandchildren Shane, Meckenzy and Bella. A Celebration-of-Life service will be held for family, friends, and others whose lives were touched by Dick on Wednesday December 28th, 2016 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of the Angels at the Franciscan Renewal Center, 5802 E. Lincoln Drive, Paradise Valley, AZ. Reception to follow afterwards. In lieu of flowers please send donations to The .
