Richard A. Van ORDEN Obituary

Jul 17, 1945 - Jan 08, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
Van ORDEN, Richard A. passed from this life on November 8 in the arms of his beloved family and thus began his journey of eternal life. He was born on July 17, 1945 in Tampa into a proud Florida Pioneer Family, which had settled in Hernando County area in 1841. He graduated from Hillsborough High School and attended the University of South Florida. His entrepreneurial spirit helped him develop many successful businesses from carpet cleaning, mobile home and furnace repairs, insurance, Atlanta International Foods and Mother Earth Natural Foods to his namesake 40 plus year, third-generation Florida building company. There was always an ever-present driving force to create and design within him. He met his "Iowa Girl" on Clearwater Beach and was married on June 27, 1969. His greatest joy was his family. He showed them every wonderful place in his beloved Florida and was always planning the "Next Adventure" with them. The biggest adventure was the seven-week long summer trip to discover the U.S.A., coast to coast, when the three kids were in grade school. Along with his guidance and devotion, they learned to swim, snorkel, scuba, fish, hunt, ski and become soccer, basketball and track stars in school and so much more. Most of all they learned to be loving and caring and to always know the strength and comfort of their family bond. He would say, "We are stronger together, and as five, we can conquer anything." He is survived by his wife, Marcia Grace Van Orden; son, Keith Adelbert Van Orden; two daughters, Grace Marie Van Orden and Susan Grace Kochtan (husband, Matt Kochtan); and his most precious granddaughter, Katelinn Grace Kochtan; as well as his sister, Diana Marie Ebanks and his niece, Elizabeth Blanche Marie Ebanks. Richard was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Grace Marie Van Orden, whom he learned from and together with shared a great love of the outdoors; his Aunt Blanche McGeachy, who helped to nuture him in his youth; and his father, Adelbert Young Van Orden, an artist, designer and builder. Services to celebrate Richard's life will be held at First United Methodist Church of Homosassa, 8831 W. Bradshaw St., Homosassa on Tuesday, November 15 at 1:30 pm, with Pastor Ronald Sumpter officiating. Interment will follow at Fountains Memorial Park, Homosassa. Visitation with family to precede service at 12:45 pm at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests kindly that memorial contributions be made in Richard's memory to the National Park Foundation, 1110 Vermont Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20005 or donate online at www.nationalparks.org.
