Remigio C. Romero, 67, a resident of Las Vegas, passed away Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014.Remigio was born on Nov. 30, 1946, in Las Vegas to the late Jose Domingo Romero and Eufelia Gomez Romero.He was a Vietnam Veteran Combat Engineer in the United States
Army from Jan. 18, 1967, to Jan. 17, 1969, and he was honorably discharged and decorated with the Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Nation Defense Service Medal, Marksman (rifle) and Sharpshooter (rifle) medals.He was a well-known guitarist, recording and playing with various bands in Las Vegas and the surrounding areas. He was well liked by many and was known for his sense of humor; he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He also was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America and a member of the Ruby Ortiz Divinos Alavanzas Choir. He retired from the New Mexico Behavioral Health as a housekeeping supervisor.He is preceded in death by his parents, Jose Domingo and Eufelia Romero; sister, Ramoncita Romero; and father and mother-in-law, Luis and Rafelita Gonzales.He is survived by his wife of the family home, Oralia G. Romero; children, Clarence Romero, Brenda Romero and Jason Smith, Melissa Romero and Chris Garcia, all of Las Vegas; brother, Robert Romero and wife, Shirley; sisters, Patsy Paynter and friend, Manuel Valdez of Albuquerque, Antonia Garduño and husband, Danny and Mary Tarango and husband, Manuel, all of Las Vegas; grandchildren, Amor Romero, Derek Fernandez, Jeremy Fernandez, Jason Smith, Jr., Justin Smith and Dominic Garcia all of Las Vegas; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Toby and Gloria Gallegos of Flagstaff, Ariz., Leo and Elaine Gonzales of Las Vegas, Bennie Gonzales of Las Vegas; numerous nephews and nieces.Rosary service will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Immaculate Conception Church with the funeral service to follow with Father George V.
