Raymond S. Gauler, 90, of Muscatine, IA, died on October 11, at his home. Raymond was born on August 12, 1924, in Muscatine, the son of John and Rose Klein Gauler. He was a World War II veteran serving in the US Army Air Corp as a navigator stationed in Italy. After the war he returned to Muscatine to marry Margaret Ann Wagner. He received a Master of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Iowa. Raymond and Margaret Ann moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico, where they raised four children and he worked at the Los Alamos National Laboratory for 35 years until his retirement at age 61. Margaret Ann passed away unexpectedly at age 59 and is buried in Los Alamos. Raymond then moved back to Muscatine and married Juanita Wagner, and they were married for 25 years until her death in 2011. He always said he was the luckiest guy in the world to have had two such wonderful marriages. His hobbies included hiking, woodworking, reading, ballroom dancing, crossword puzzles, and travel. Those left to honor his wishes include his children, Allen Lee Gauler, Mary Rose Knudsen, and Marcia Sue Stup; five grandchildren, Rose, Rachel, Benjamin, Christopher, and Brian; five great-grandchildren, Theodor, Iris, Marianne, Alice, and Leonard; as well as many other extended family members. He will be missed by all. His is preceded in death by his parents; both wives; one son, John Steven Gauler; and a brother, John Gauler.Memorials may be made to either the or to the Wounded Warrior Project and may be mailed to Allen Gauler, 922 Tewa Loop, Los Alamos, NM 87544.
