Ramon Guzman, 83, was born in Kingsville, Texas to Frank and Eselza Barrera Guzman. Mr. Guzman was a retired high school band director of 30 years where he educated students about his love of music in San Antonio, Corpus Christi, Laredo and McAllen, Texas. He was an Air Force Veteran where he served as a musician in the Tunetoppers jazz ensemble and was also lead trumpeter in the USAF 536th AF Band at Patrick AFB, Florida. He was also the first in his family to attend college. Prior to military service he studied at The University of Texas at Austin where he was a member of the “Showband of the Southwest,” the Longhorn Marching Band. After leaving the Air Force he attended Texas A&I University in Kingsville, TX where he earned both a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Music. Continuing his passion for playing music he was the percussionist for several groups that entertained countless people throughout South Texas. Additionally, he was an instrumentalist for Falcon Records contributing to several recording artists’ albums. Mr. Guzman was also a faithful man serving as a parish council member at St. John Neumann Catholic Church for several years. He was also active in the men’s group and performed at the church’s parish festival and New Year’s Eve celebrations. After retirement Ray kept himself busy working as a security guard for Allied Barton Security Services at San Pedro Plaza Tower, taking care of his dogs Buddy and Dusty and playing with his grandchildren. He was also an avid Longhorn Football, Dallas Cowboys and San Antonio Spurs fan.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Frank Guzman, Jr. and is survived by his wife Diana; their children Brandon and his husband Mark Johnson, Jeannette and her husband Kevin Krueger; his grandchildren Ashlyn and Colby Krueger and his sister Mary Freelon
