Ralph KoontzKnoxville, TNRalph Eugene Koontz, age 87, of Knoxville, passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2016, in Maryville. He was born on November 9, 1928, in Knoxville, the son of Henry Lee and Stella (Irick) Koontz. A longtime member of Riverdale Baptist church, he was a faithful member of their Empty Pantry Fund ministry. He was a skilled carpenter and enjoyed making birdhouses as gifts. He was a retired insulator from Local #46.He was preceded in death by parents; his wife of 43 years, Sue Merriman Koontz; brothers, Floyd and Walter; and sisters, Louise Nave and Betty Sharp. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Ron and Ruthie Koontz, of Knoxville, and Steve and Jeffrey Ann Koontz, of Maryville; sister, Marion Pack, of Knoxville; brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Diane Koontz, of Indiana; grandchildren, Kelly and Paul Platillero and Jon Koontz, of Knoxville, and Joey and Amy Koontz, of Southington, CT; great-grandchildren, Ellie, Annie, and a little one soon to be born; several nieces, nephews and numerous friends.The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 1, 2016, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Mynatt Funeral Home, Fountain City Chapel. Family and friends will meet at 1:45 p.m., on Sunday, October 2, 2016, at Asbury Cemetery for a 2:00 p.m. graveside service. Rev. Michael Koontz will be officiating.
