Ralph Kibby Sr. of Douglas passed away at home March 12, 2012 at age 85. Ralph was born on December 9, 1926 in Silver City, Nevada. A celebration of his life is pending and will be announced at a later date.Ralph arrived in Juneau, Alaska on a steamship in 1931 and spent his childhood and adult life in Douglas. He met his wife Vivian at at Percy's Café, where she was employed. Vivian and Ralph were married April 1, 1955, at the Methodist Church in Douglas, Alaska. They remained in Douglas to raise their family.Ralph was a veteran of World War II. Ralph was active in the community; he served on the Douglas City Council and the Douglas Fire Department. He owned and operated Channel Bus Lines, a bus service, providing transportation between Douglas and Juneau. He worked as a mechanic in the construction and logging industries. He was lead mechanic for the CBJ until his retirement. He will be remembered throughout the community for his mechanical skills and his willingness to always help others. Ralph's passion was his family and friends and spending time at his cabin. He was preceded in death by his wife Vivian, parents Eva and Melvin Kibby; his sister Melva.He is survived by his; daughter Kary & husband Kevin Mabie of Mead Colorado; his sons Roger Kibby, Brian Kibby and Ralph Kibby Jr & Julia Smith-Kibby. His granddaughters, Kristin, Shale and Breckan Kibby. His grandsons, Severin and Devon Kibby. His sister, Betty Cashel.
