LAGRANGE — Ralph V. "Tunney" Holsinger, 90, a former Mongo resident, died Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at Miller's Merry Manor in LaGrange, IN. Mr. Holsinger was born on October 3, 1924, in LaGrange County to Virgil and Ruth (Bassett) Holsinger. Living his lifetime in LaGrange County, he was a member of Mongo United Methodist Church. He was a farmer in the Mongo area for many years and a truck driver for Weiss Trucking, retiring in 1981. Tunney was a member of the Orland American Legion, a NASCAR fan and played lots of fast pitch softball as a pitcher. Mr. Holsinger was a United States Navy Veteran serving in World War II. On September 17, 1948, in Mongo, Indiana, he married Jean Preston; she preceded him in death on June 30, 2013. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Tracy and Keith Sample of Angola, Indiana; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tony and Shirley Holsinger of Howe, Indiana, and Terry and Jody Holsinger of Mongo, Indiana; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Janet Holsinger of Howe, Indiana; and a brother-in-law, Alden Swenson of Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; four sisters, Maxine Hackett, Marjorie Ray, Betty Swenson, and Margaret Woodmansee; and a brother, Paul Holsinger. Funeral services will be on Friday, June 26, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Mongo United Methodist Church, 3255 N. S.R. 3, Mongo, Indiana, with the Revs. James Bartlett and Carldean Merrifield officiating. Burial will be in Mongo Cemetery in Mongo, Indiana, with Orland American Legion conducting military graveside services. Visitation will be on Thursday, June 25, 2015, from 4-8 p.m. at Frurip-May Funeral Home, 309 W. Michigan St., LaGrange, Indiana. Memorials may be given to Mongo United Methodist Church.
