Rachel Pettway Covington Barnette, 92, of Charlotte, NC passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2017 at White Oak Manor in York, SC.She was born on April 5, 1924 in Cabarrus County. She was the daughter of the late Norman Berian and Eula Thornburg Covington, and the wife of the late Thomas "Eugene" Barnette. She enjoyed playing the piano, reading, cooking and a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Huntersville. She is survived by two daughters, Frances Barnette Belt and husband Steve of Kings Mountain, NC and Nancy Barnette Warren of Cowpens, SC; sister Alice Wike of Charlotte, NC; three grandchildren and very special friend, Darrell Smith. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Melissa Covington and Betty Penninger. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at 2:00 PM at James Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to funeral service, 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at funeral home on Wednesday.
