Phyllis Cast Thalman, 85, died on April 21, 2009 in Yuma. She enjoyed a full life in Danville, Illinois where she was born on January 7, 1924 to Ernest E. and Julia T. Cast. She loved the outdoors and the opportunities the beautiful Arizona winters afforded for the last twenty years eventually moving to Yuma to be closer to family. Phyllis graduated from Danville High School in 1941 then attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri and Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois. While at Millikin she met and married Bill Thalman. They married January 6, 1945 and enjoyed 64 years of marriage together. In Danville, Phyllis was active in Mary and Martha Circle at First Presbyterian Church where she was a member for over 70 years. She was a member of PEO, Danville Garden Club, Delta Delta Delta Sorority Alumni, and AAUW. Phyllis also served on the Salvation Army Board and was President of the YWCA Board. She was also an active volunteer at Lake View and St. Elizabeth hospitals. Phyllis is survived by her husband, Bill; and daughters, Ann (Mike) Hudgins of Waxahachie, Texas and Julie (Henri) Carter of Yuma. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Lindsay and Austin Carter. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 598 S. Seventh Avenue on Monday, April 27, 11 a.m. Phyllis enjoyed bright colors and so disliked black and grey. Please respect her wishes as we celebrate her life.
