Philip Edward ReedSeptember 30, 1922 - October 15, 2016Philip (Phil) Reed, 94, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2016 at home in Boise, Idaho, just as he wished, with his little dog and daughter at his side.Phil was born on September 30, 1922 in Boise to Frank and Ethel Reed. He attended Boise schools and married his childhood sweetheart, Alwilda, in 1942.Phil served his country with distinction during
World War II in Company K of the 77th infantry Division of the U.S.
Army, fighting in the Western Pacific and Southern Philippines campaigns. He was most proud of his Combat Infantry Badge and his
Bronze Star Medal, awarded for meritorious achievement in ground combat in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.Following the war, Phil began his construction career as a sheet metal worker; and he and Alwilda were busy raising their family. Upon retirement, Phil built their dream home on Mores Creek, where they enjoyed mountain living for many years. During that time, he worked as a Deputy for the Boise County Sheriff's Office. Phil and his wife later moved back to Boise.Phil was a man of many interests and hobbies: among them were hunting, fishing, gold mining, gardening, wood-working, cooking and baking. He also enjoyed short trips to Jackpot, Nevada and scratching off Idaho lottery tickets. He was a wonderful example of how to age well, remaining as active as possible right to the end!Phil is survived by his three daughters: Phyllis Lake, Karen (Michael) Wilcox, and Sandy (Jerry) Neider; two grandchildren, Michelle (Chris) Earnest and Gary Egbert; four great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Bonnie Button; and brother, Don Reed. He also leaves behind his beloved dog and faithful companion, Lucky. Phil was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother, Mae Reed; his wife of 66 years, Alwilda, who passed in 2008; an infant son; and brothers, Ron and Dick.A veteran's committal service will be held at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery on Monday, October 24, at 11:00 a.m.Services are through Summers Funeral Home, Boise Chapel.
