BACHMEIER, Petrous (Peter)A resident of Wheatley, Peter Bachmeier died Saturday, May 6, 2017 at the Leamington District Memorial Hospital with his family at his side at the age of 90. Peter was born on April 17, 1927 in Marienthel, Saskatchewan. He was the son of Aloysius and Elizabeth (Lind) Bachmeier. On April 18, 1953 he married Anna (Linz) Bachmeier. They lived in Kingsville, Leamington, and Windsor. On April 18, 1969 Connie LoPorto (Thomas) came into their life and remained a foster daughter. In 1947, Peter came to Ontario where he worked for the first 3 years as a share crop farmer, muskrat trapper, worked briefly at Ford Motor Company and graded onions at Sherman's Cold Storage. He worked the busy season at H.J. Heinz Co. and then went to Kemanoe, BC for a short time. Upon returning to Ontario he went to work for Cementation Company of England for 7 years as a Construction Supervisor. He then went on to work for International Nickle Company in Sudbury, ON for 2 years and returned to Leamington to work once again for H.J. Heinz. He owned his own cleaning business then went to KFC Chicken as a Maintenance Supervisor from which he retired after 20 years of service with Scott's Restaurants. On February 18, 2004, after more than 50 years of marriage, Peter lost his wife Anna. Peter was a member of St. Michael's and St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Leamington and was an avid bowler with Empire Bowling Lanes of Leamington. He spent many hours in his hobby shop making clocks of intricate nature. His scroll saw was his 'retirement buddy'. On April 8, 2006 Peter was happily married to his second wife, June (Martens) Bachmeier (Royal Oak Kingsville) and they celebrated 11 years of marriage together. Predeceased by his parents; wife Anna; sisters Elizabeth Silva, Victoria Robertson, Delores Gisi, Gloria (Dick) Sprecher, Mary Grube; brothers Aloysius, Sebastian, and Linus (Emily) Bachmeier. Survived by siblings Clara Weinrauch, Konstantine "Kon" Bachmeier, and Lawrence (Olga) Bachmeier; sister-in- law Maria (Sebastian) Bachmeier; brother-in-law Art (Delores) Gisi. He will be sadly missed by Connie and Ralph LoPorto, grandchildren Delia (Rod) Polako, Josie (Jeff) Freeborn; great-grandchildren Julia and Alexandre Polako, Fiona and Miles Freeborn; surviving wife June (Martens) Bachmeier residing at Royal Oak Kingsville and her sons Ron (Fran), Wayne (Nancy), Rob (Cheri); her 10 grandchildren Kimberly (Michael) Renaud, Karin (Jeremy) Bennett, Kevin (Jenny) Martens, Justin (Krystal) Martens, Alyssa (Cory) Mctavish; her 8 great-grandchildren Kristopher, Joselyne, Mya, Madison, Brendan, Brady, Easton, and Titus. Peter had 13 godchildren, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews who love him and will miss him dearly. Family and friends will be received at the Reid Funeral Home & Reception Centre,14 Russell Street, Leamington on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at St. Michael's Church, 29 Elliot St., Leamington from 9:00 a.m. until the Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery, Windsor.
