Rapp, Penelope Ann,73, of Louisville, died October 29, 2016 after succumbing to Alzheimer's disease. Penny was born on April 27, 1943 in Louisville, to C.W. and Ruby Peffer. She graduated from Holy Rosary Academy in Louisville in 1961 where she was known for her singing voice. During her senior year, she performed the lead role in "The Mikado" along with her high school sweetheart, Robert "Bob" Rapp, whom she married in 1962.After Bob was "encouraged" to join the Air Force at the height of the Vietnam War, Penny served her country as a military spouse and mother for 23 years, touring the states from coast to coast stationed in OH, CA (twice), MI, NY (twice), NH, and VA.Passing down an appreciating of education, she excelled as a student and took numerous courses in accounting, math, computer science, and nursing at the University of Louisville, Monterey Peninsula College, and Old Dominion University. She even worked briefly for NASA as a computer programmer as part of a co-op program.Penny was a musician (voice and piano) and patron of the performing arts; she loved ballet, classical music, opera, and musicals. Crocheting, knitting, and sewing were also a part her accomplished skillset.An encyclopedic knowledge of cooking from around the world taught her family that eating was an adventure requiring constant exploration and discovery.Penny was preceded in death by her mother and father, and is survived by her son, Brian (Jacqueline) of Rockville, MD; daughter, Jennifer of Louisville; son, Donald (Renee) of Louisville; and her five grandchildren; Ronnie, Chloe, Christopher, Curtis, and Kyle.Visitation will be Saturday, November 5 from 2-8 p.m. at the Highlands Funeral Home; 1 p.m. for family. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Sunday, November 6.
