Paul Joseph Sevarino, 93, passed away peacefully having been surrounded by family at his home on Friday, February 17, 2017. He was married 70 years to the love of his life Joanne "Joni" (Cancemi) Sevarino. Mr. Sevarino was born on Feb. 23, 1923, in his parents' home in Thompsonville, CT, one of eleven children of the late Bonifacio and Rosa (Agliata) Sevarino. He was predeceased by his five sisters (Katherine, Mary, Lucy, Rose and Sadie) and five brothers (Charles, Joseph, Tony, Nicholas and Frank). He was deeply religious and became known as "Pope" (pronounced with a long "e"). He served in the U.S. Army Air Force in World War II as an aircraft mechanic and staff sergeant, working on P39s, P40s and his beloved P51 Mustang. He discharged to the reserves in 1946. Through the early 1960s, often holding three jobs, he worked as a civilian contractor at Westover Air Force Base. He was especially proud of his work during the Berlin Airlift. He then became a quality assurance agent for the federal government. He received numerous awards for outstanding performance, and while at Hamilton Standard he certified the astronaut backpacks for the Apollo space program. He served many years as assistant scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 163, West Hartford, CT. He retired in 1985 with 36 years federal service, after which he traveled widely with his wife Joni, and spent many years helping and caring for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In his later years he loved playing bingo. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children and their spouses, Paulette and Robert Morse of Amesbury, MA, attorney Angelo and Jean Sevarino of Broad Brook, CT, and physician Kevin and Kim Kelvey-Sevarino of Cheshire, CT, ten grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. He will always be known for his love of "la famiglia", his work ethic, and his great sense of humor. He will be loved and missed forever. The family would like to thank providers at the UConn Health Center, McLean Homecare and Hospice and Polish Helping Hands for their exceptional care and compassion. Relatives and friends may join the family for visiting hours on Saturday, February 25, 2017 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield, CT.
