Patricia Louise McIrvin, 77, of Wrangell, AK, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2016 in Wenatchee, WA and attended by her family. Pat was born on July 2, 1939 in Spokane, WA and grew up in the Hillyard area of Spokane, graduating from Rogers High School in 1957. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Washington State University in 1961 and began her teaching career at Evergreen School district teaching grade school. Prior to finishing college, Pat did a summer internship at the Boeing Company in Renton, where she met a handsome young engineer named Ronald. They were soon married and enjoyed 54 years together. The next decade saw Pat working at their new home they built in the woods of Cougar Mountain in Issaquah, Wa. and raising her family of two boys. Whether it was shuttling her boys to soccer practice or supporting the local PTA, she was always involved in her children's lives and made sure they had the best. At the age of 40, after years of watching her sons play youth soccer, she joined a women's team and greatly enjoyed her time on the field.In 1980, Pat and Ron ventured in a new direction and moved to Ellensburg, WA and started farming on a two hundred acre hay and grain farm. While continuing to run the house hold, Pat earned a Masters of Education from Central Washington University, after which she headed the Ellensburg branch of Yakima Valley Community College Business School. She held this position for a few years until Kittitas School District enticed her to become the district's Business Manager.She and Ron lived on the family farm until 2000 when they then moved to Wrangell, Alaska. Pat immensely enjoyed the next 13 years in Wrangell, improving their waterfront property and fishing for salmon and halibut in their wooden boats. She was active in the local church and joined a quilting club.In 2013, Ron and Pat purchased farm ground in Powell, WY. They leased the tillable land and enjoyed living in the high mountain desert but still split their time between Wyoming and Alaska for the next two years.Patricia will be remembered as a strong, loyal, nurturing mother and wife. She valued her close friendships and enjoyed time in her greenhouse tending to her many flowers and plants. Quilting was also her passion and she made many a quilt for her grand kids and close relatives. She loved God and her family and was always concerned with their wellbeing and future. Patricia was preceded in death by her husband Ronald and her parents, Robert and Helen Swanson. She is survived by sons Andy (Polly) and Jeff (Ellen), sister Mary Anne, and six grandchildren. The family will hold a memorial service at Mercer Creek Church in Ellensburg on September 23th at 10:00am.In lieu of any flowers, the family requests donations be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or in her name.
