This obituary is administered by:
Norma WellardAugust 18, 1930 - May 15, 2014Norma Lee Armstrong Wellard, passed away May 19, 2014 at E.I.R.M.C. in Idaho Falls, Idaho with her son Rulon by her side.Norma Lee Armstrong was born August 18, 1930 in Basalt, Idaho to Oscar Armstrong and Martha Ellen Thompson Armstrong. She was the 6th child of 13. Seven were girls and 6 boys. When Norma was 13 years old she moved with her older sister, Kady, in Pocatello, Idaho and went to work at the Railroad Company. She also lived with her uncle Mont and Aunt Ev for a while.Norma met Jay Wellard while he was in the Navy. They were later married on July 13, 1946 in Pocatello, Idaho at grandma and grandpa Wellards home. Jay and his brother-in-law George Misner built Norma and Jay's first home. Jay dug the basement for the house by hand and by himself. They moved to Salmon and lived on the Fox Ranch in 1950. They moved back to Pocatello and in 1955 Norma, Jay, Lola & Mick Andrews (sister and brother-in-law) got together and bought the Cruz ranch and lived on Bohannon Creek and ranched there until 1969.While living there they brought home a tiny baby boy, he was born August 18, 1959. He only weighed 4 pounds and 1 ounce. They named him Rulon Gene. He was born on Norma's birthday and as the story goes, she never told him it was her birthday too until Rulon was 10 years old, because she wanted him to enjoy his own birthday. When she finally told him he cried and wouldn't eat the cake because Norma's name wasn't on it too.On February 22, 1962, Norma and Jay brought another baby boy home; they named him Marc Douglas, now they were parents of two little boys. Marc joined the service and served his country in several different bases. We lost Marc in a tragic drowning in the Snake River on October 7, 1998.On April 6, 1976 Keri (Bear) came to be part of the family at 3 Mile lane. Now they had 3 handsome boys living with them. There was a lot of hunting and 4-wheeling done for many years after that.Norma started her postal job at the Baker Post office in 1969 and retired as the rural route delivery mail lady after 29 years. When she retired it took 3 people to take her place.Norma always had a green thumb when it came to her famous garden and she shared with anyone that needed anything in it. She could make anything grow.On June 17, 2007 Norma had a very sad day happen. She lost her wonderful husband of 61 years. It was quite a struggle after that but again she proved how strong she was.She continued on with her son Rulon with the family construction business and helping anyone out that needed help.Norma was diagnosed with cancer in February 2012. It started on an incredible journey with family, friends and Angel Flight. We would like to thank everyone that assisted with mom's caregiving and traveling. She had many adventures and many fun times and lots of talking done.Funeral services will be Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at the LDS Stake Center on Daisy Street in Salmon. Viewing will be from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Relief Society room. Burial will be in the Salmon Cemetery. Arrangements by Jones & Casey Funeral Home of Salmon. www.Jonesandcaseyfh.com
