On Tuesday, April 2, 2013, Norma Olney Thompson peacefully passed away from this life surrounded by her loving family at the age of 86. She was born on December 4, 1926, to Wallace Lorin Olney and Mona Moore Olney. She was the oldest of four children, two sisters and one brother, Carma Peterson, Colleen Lawlor and Wallace (Wally) Olney.Mom was raised in Smithfield, Utah, and graduated from North Cache High School where she met and married her High School sweetheart Joe Thompson. They were married in the Logan LDS Temple on May 29, 1945, and was blessed with seven children. She is survived by her husband of almost 68 years and her 6 children: Winnan (Norman) Thompson, Janet (Dennis) Kohler, Cheryl (Jan) Maughan, Rodney (Susan) Thompson, Robert (Kim) Thompson, Steven Thompson and one daughter-in-law Jackie Thompson. She was blessed with 23 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Kenneth Jay Thompson and one granddaughter, Jennifer Thompson Peterson.Throughout the years she held many church positions and had a strong testimony of the gospel. She loved working side by side with Dad where they built apartments, a motel and their new home. She was an example to her children and taught them the value of hard work. She enjoyed the many winters she and dad spent in California and St. George. They were blessed to spend this past winter in St.George.For this is a journey that we must all take, and each must go along. "It's all part of the master's plan - A step on the way home." Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Nelson Funeral Home in Smithfield, and from 10:30 to 11 :30 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Interment will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery.
